The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire text from the president's memo:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.

The trust in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having spent the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all excited to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

David

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Face the opponents with new abilities, risks, and tests that shift every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos does not have an official launch window or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as production progresses.
