Automobiles in German City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
